Power-to-Gas Call

Renewable Power-to-Gas (RE-P2G) technologies like renewable methane or renewable hydrogen can substitute fossil conventional and alternative fuels (natural gas or liquefied natural gas) and thus decrease the share of transport-related emissions (NOx, particles, noise, CO2). At the same time, P2G may be an interesting option to store surplus electricity from variable renewables.

However, RE-P2G technology is still not economically feasible and there are close interactions with the increase of renewable energy sources and changes in energy infrastructures. To better understand obstacles for a further deployment of P2G-technologies, IEA-RETD has decided to commission a study. The overall objective of the project is to prepare a technology assessment of current and future Power-to-Gas (P2G) options for use in commercial vehicles, addressing technological, economic, environmental and political obstacles and possible solutions.
